Before my father passed away in 2009 he completed a degree in photography at the University of Wolverhampton, gaining a 2/1, better than myself some 15 years previous.
As part of his final year project he photographed the daytime tea dances at The Irish Centre in Digbeth Birmingham. Digbeth is an area with deep roots within the Irish community of that city.
After his funeral I found 6 rolls of Kodak Portra in his fridge. I held on to them for a couple of years, often wondering what I should shoot with them.
So one summers day I took a walk around Digbeth and keeping the Irish Centre in the centre of that walk, I shot my dad’s last 6 rolls of film.
